The Association of California Community Colleges Teacher Education Preparation (ACCCTEP) promotes the establishment, advancement and sustainability of quality teacher education in California community colleges as an essential component of higher education teacher preparation programs.
To increase the number and quality of lower division teacher preparation programs in California , that are focused on increasing the number of students from diverse backgrounds and support these students to dedicate themselves to the field of education through high quality academic preparation and integrated with multiple early field experiences and early employment.
Started in 2006 as the Southern California Community College Teacher Education Consortium, a small group of dedicated community college teacher education faculty who had been working in regional groups with partner CSU’s, came together to discuss and act on relevant issues related to the specific needs of all CA Community College teacher preparation programs. They saw a need for advocacy and a unified voice for establishing and maintaining the role of community colleges in preparing K-12 teachers, enhancing communication and cooperation with four year institutions, creating more efficient pathways to the teaching profession and addressing state and national policy regarding the preparation of teachers.
