Counseling and Advising Future Teachers - February 24, 2022
On February 24, 2022, ACCCTEP held a webinar on Counseling and Advising Future Teachers. Presenters Steve Bautista, Counselor/Coordinator Center for TeacherEducation, Santa Ana College, and Aimee Nelson, Director, Center for Careers in Teaching, CSU Fullerton, discussed Undergraduate Pathways to Credential Programs, the Latest on AB130 and Methods to Meet Basic Skills and Subject Matter Competency, and Best Practices for Counseling and Advising Aspiring Educators. The purpose of this session is to provide CCC Teacher Education Program leaders and faculty with a discussion on curriculum and program development for aspiring TK-12 educators who begin in community college. Topics included developing high school to community college to university (2+2+2) pathways; EDUC course, certificate, and degree development for elementary, secondary, and special education; providing effective early fieldwork opportunities for both career exploration and meeting EDUC 200 requirements, and establishing articulation agreements and university partnerships. The discussion also includes opportunities to identify challenges and barriers related to developing pathways for future elementary, secondary, and special education teachers. The session concludes with recommendations for ACCCTEP policy exploration/action.

The purpose of this session is to provide CCC Teacher Education Program leaders and faculty with a discussion on key program components and to provide strategies to aid in funding. Participants hear from program leaders at well-established teacher education programs about program planning, implementation, and funding from a nationally known higher education expert and coach.
